The career of Gail Devers in track and field was one of perseverance . Devers' first Olympic gold medal could hardly have come in more dramatic circumstances, dipping for the finish line, in what was thought to be the closest ever 100m final. While her victory was amazing, it was the journey leading up to this epic win that made her a legend. After being diagnosed with Graves’ disease and at risk of amputation, Devers fought back and went on to become a 3-time Olympic gold medalist and 13-time World Indoor and Outdoor medalist.

“I tell people that the worst part of Graves’ disease is being in that limbo spot of not knowing. Once I got the diagnosis, I said ‘You know what? I’m unstoppable. I don’t care what I have to deal with. I want to accomplish these goals and dreams that I have written down.’ I write it down, I sign it. If I put my name on it, my word is my bond, and I have to pursue it."
